ANIMATING THE SUPERHEROES - Creating JEDWARD's "Put the Green Cape On" - Euro 2012 Music Video!
For the past couple months I've been working freelance on a project with "Caboom", a studio in Ireland... to produce a comic-book style animated Music video for the popular Ireland twin-brother group, "JEDWARD".
I animated "headless" Super-Hero bodies in Flash... Various Dancing, Flying, Landing and take-off Animation loops matching the storyboards and the live-action dancing.
The Director of Caboom Ltd, Damian Farrell, moved around and edited these loops into the scenes. The animation had to be limited in order to composite the live-action heads. Even though I live in Canada, The Background Artist lives in the USA, and Damian lives in Ireland, we were able to collaborate on this project by skype and email... and bring all the parts together in this fun music video!
I designed the super-hero characters over the course of a few designs... based on the client's input. I built the character in Flash, and then followed Damian's storyboard direction to create the different angles for the various animation loops... which could be edited into the video in After-effects. Damian took all the parts and composited the scenes together, edited to the original Jedward music track. All the Irish Celebrities, and John and Edward (aka "Jedward") were shot live-action with green-screens. The final composite was created in after-effects with all the comic-book styles, edits and text added.
The song is called Jedward's "Put The Green Cape On" - Euro 2012. The video is promoting the Ireland Soccer (Football!) team in their big event game against Poland this summer. The souvenir "Greencapes" will be worn by fans at the games and all proceeds go to the ISPCC charity.
The video is now on Youtube and getting a lot of attention from the fans!.. "It's Jepic!"....And currently at over 100, 000 Views! in the first week. It's all for a good cause, so I'm passing it on!
It's lively Pop-music and fun, with lots of Irish Celebrities you likely don't know... Enjoy!.. I had fun working on it.
